Hogares Claret Meditation Hall
Our first project was the construction of a building for 110 male orphans, children living on the street, Hogares Claret Meditation Hall
Our first project was the construction of a meditation hall for 110 boys ages 9 – 17. These are street kids, addicts and alcoholics who are undergoing rehabilitation.
Hogares Claret, founded by Catholic priest Father (Padre) Gabriel Mejia, is a therapeutic community of 45 centers all over Colombia where young boys are rehabilitated through a program of education, Catholic religion, community involvement, and meditation. Padre Gabriel’s success has won him the Queen Sofia prize of Spain for non-governmental therapeutic communities. In Sasaima’s Semillas (Seeds) location there are 110 boys between the ages of 9 and 17.
Clayhands was formed to teach alternative construction methods – adobe, pressed earth and bamboo- in Colombia. We work with individuals, organizations and municipalities in rural Colombia to revive the lost art of earth construction, creating earth-based habitats that foster self-sufficiency in rural families, many of whom have been displaced by Colombia’s long civil war.
